There are few annual New York City events that are so renowned that they must be experienced at least once.
I’ve done New Year’s Eve in Times Square. I’ve done the Rockefeller Center tree lighting. I’ve done the New York City Marathon…okay, that’s not technically true…I just watched it, but you get the idea. Last month I got to check another event off my “NYC Must Do List” when I attended the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with my friend Kim.
Before going, we anticipated huge crowds of cold, cranky people. We didn’t really feel like camping out all night for a front-row seat, so when we showed up just an hour before the parade started we expected to have to watch from a block away. To our surprise though, we found an ideal corner spot right across from Radio City Music Hall! It was pretty much perfect. And the crowds weren’t nearly as bad as we expected…probably since the parade route stretches miles, whereas for events like New Year’s Eve in Times Square thousands of people are crammed into just a few blocks.
The parade proved to tons-o-fun. The bands, the floats, the ginormous balloons. It was all great. There were also quite a few celebrities partaking in the events including: Karmin (obviously I was most excited to see them), Whoopi Goldberg, Jimmy Fallon, Carly Rae Jepsen, Flo Rida, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, The Wanted, Colbie Caillat, Trace Adkins, Don McLean, the Fierce Five Olympics gymnastics team, and last but not least the Ninja Turtles!
After watching the parade year after year from my living room it was great to finally see it in person. So if you fee like blowing off your family dinner next year, I’d definitely recommend it! Just kidding Mom.
Carson,
Having Radio City Music Hall as a New York backdrop for your Macy’s Parade Pictures is AWESOME!!!! Have you ever considered getting into the travel brochure business???
